We're excited to share a progress update on the Franklin Street Revitalization Project!
Parking Lot Nearing Completion
The new public parking lot is approximately 95% complete and is expected to open to the public next week.
While the lot will be available for use, visitors should note that the parking lot lighting will not be operational immediately. According to Duke Energy, installation of the lighting is expected to take place over the next couple of weeks.
We appreciate everyone's patience as final details are completed and look forward to providing additional convenient parking for downtown visitors, customers, and employees.
Streetscape Progress Continues
Construction along Franklin Street is moving steadily forward, with the contractor estimating the streetscape project is approximately 40% complete.
Over the next two weeks, crews expect to finish installation of all electrical and communication conduit infrastructure beneath the streetscape.
Weather permitting, the new sidewalk in front of Adrian's Hair-tique and Kazoku is expected to be completed by the middle of next week, improving pedestrian access for both businesses.
Throughout the remainder of June, crews will continue installing granite curbing and new sidewalks along the corridor.
The contractor currently estimates that all major street and sidewalk construction will be completed between late June and mid-July, weather permitting. However, several small sidewalk sections along Franklin Street will remain temporarily unfinished until Duke Energy removes existing utility poles and installs the new decorative street lighting.
Downtown businesses will remain open and accessible throughout construction.
While parking may shift during this time, there are still plenty of options nearby, including public parking lots and on-street spaces throughout downtown.

Thank You for Supporting Downtown
We know construction can be inconvenient at times, and we are grateful to our businesses, property owners, employees, and visitors for their continued patience and support throughout this project.
The improvements taking shape on Franklin Street will create a safer, more attractive, and more walkable gateway into downtown for years to come.
Stay tuned for additional updates as work progresses.
